Insurance & Accounts

Private Health Insurance

The many changes in health insurance and the differences between health insurance funds can lead to confusion about the level of private health insurance cover you hold. North West Private Hospital has simplified matters for all our patients by making arrangements between health funds and the hospital.

Patients & Visitors

Our member eligibility clerk will do a health fund check based on information provided on your Registration Form. This includes verifying your Insurance, level of cover, gap fee and any out of pocket expenses that may be incurred. Please note that any gap fee and out of pocket expenses are payable before or at the time of admission.

You're not required to pay the portion of your account that is covered by your health fund as we'll claim benefits on your behalf.

Self-Insured Patients

Patients without private insurance may choose to self-insure. Estimates are available from our Front Office staff for a variety of procedures and treatments. Self-insured patients are required to pay the estimated hospital account at time of admission.

Public Patients

Public maternity and ophthalmology patients are welcome at North West Private Hospital.

  • Public maternity patients are referred by their obstetrician to the Booking-In Clinic to arrange admission.
  • Public ophthalmology patients are referred by their ophthalmologist for admission.

Please ensure that the Patient Registration Form is completed and returned to the hospital before the day of admission for processing.

Out of pocket expenses may occur for optional extras whilst in hospital (e.g. television hire).

Department of Veterans' Affairs

Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) patients will have their account directly sent to the DVA for payment. DVA patients are responsible for calls made to mobile, long distance (STD) and international (ISD) numbers. Local calls are free.

See DVA for information about DVA services at North West Private Hospital

Workers Compensation & Motor Accident Insurance Board

North West Private Hospital accepts Workers Compensation and Motor Accident Insurance Board (MAIB) patients.

Patients need to make arrangements to have their claim approved prior to admission.

MAIB will fund shared rooms for their clients. Private rooms may be available for an additional charge. Please feel free to discuss room options with admission staff.

Other Charges

After you leave hospital you may receive bills for other charges incurred during your stay that aren't the responsibility of the hospital. These are therefore charged separately, and may include fees relating to:

  • Your treating doctor
  • Anaesthesia
  • Pathology
  • Radiology
  • Pharmacy
  • Allied health
  • Calls made to mobile, long distance (STD) and international (ISD) numbers
