Robotic Surgery begins at North West Private Hospital

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Russell Furzer, recently completed the first ever robotic surgery case at North West Private Hospital in Burnie. Utilising the robotic surgical assistant system, ROSA, Dr Furzer performed a total knee joint replacement using the newly introduced technology.
The ROSA system operates by combining 3D imaging, computer navigation, and a robotic arm to assist surgeons before and during operations.
“The introduction of robotic surgery allows us to perform a range of orthopaedic surgeries with improved surgical precision, while allowing for the unique anatomy of each patient, helping them to get back on their feet sooner,” said Dr Furzer.
The ROSA system was introduced to the North West Private Hospital by Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Roger Bingham who has experience with the system in Victoria and recently relocated to the North West Coast, joining Dr Furzer and Dr Scott Fletcher in treating orthopaedic patients locally.
“This is a wonderful investment and opportunity for patients in North West Tasmania, allowing them to undergo surgery using the latest technology, without the need to travel to Launceston or Hobart,” said Keith Cock, Chief Executive Officer of North West Private Hospital.
