We are pleased to have officially opened our new Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory. Developed at a cost of $6.2 million, the service will provide much need diagnostic and interventional cardiology services for the north west Tasmania community.
“We’re delighted to officially open the Cardiac Cath Lab at North West Private Hospital. This is a joint venture between Healthe Care and Charles Heart, allowing us to attract new Cardiology specialists to Burnie while providing an improved service for local patients,” said North West Private Hospital Chief Executive, Keith Cock.
The lab includes the latest technology and imaging equipment, enabling minimally invasive coronary angiograms, and implanting of heart monitoring devices. The service plans to expand in the near future, with the insertion of interventional devices including stents and pacemakers.
“The local community has been campaigning for improved Cardiac services for many years. This joint venture provides an opportunity for us to treat patients locally, without the need to travel to Launceston or beyond, particularly when they need regular monitoring or are acutely unwell,” added Mr Cock.
“This facility will undoubtedly save lives in a community with amongst the worst cardiac mortality rates in the country. Having a local accessible service offers the opportunity for efficiency and cost saving in accessible health delivery. It is definitely a game changer for north west communities,” said Cardiologist, Dr Geoff Evans.
